Ambient music is thought of as background music; a utility that functions as a space filler or relaxation inducer. The idea of the musical loop contradicts this mode of composition in that with each repetition, the listener becomes acutely aware of time whenever the series of sounds restarts.

These reel-to-reel tape loop explorations play with the contradictions found in the soothing loops that may be thought of as “ambient". The friction in this dichotomy can be found in our perception of time and memory. While the loop acts as a still image - the same every time you look at it - the manipulations distort the original picture embellishing aspects of it in real-time.

In this way these pieces are like videos of empty landscapes; nothing is happening but also a lot is happening.
